Simulated HVAC Service Calls  (ON HOLD)
 
  1. (Done) Wire a thermostat.  The wiring inside the air handler was completed by another tech.
  2. (Done) Wire a thermostat to the air handler control board using "C" connectors.
  3. (Done) Fabricate a metal duct patch panel ⁄ heat shield.
  4. A customer "smells gas" around a furnace.  Troubleshoot.  If there is a problem we will send out another tech to resolve it.  Collect diagnostic fee.
  5. (Done) No heat call. The burners do not ignite.  Troubleshoot and resolve.  50H0047.
  6. Check an HSI (see additional resources #9).  The last tech left notes that indicate that the customer's HSI may be going bad.  The tech did not have his meter with him that day.  Each team member must check the HSI and compare their results with results of the other team members.
  7. Check the bottom of a window A⁄C's evaporator and condenser  for refrigerant leaks then reassemble the unit.
  8. Our company is being sued.  A homeowner claims that we put the wrong refrigerant into her unit.  Our lawyers asked that we determine what refrigerant should have been put into the unit and the  charge that was in the unit when it came from the factory.  The tech who added the refrigerant did not state on the bill which refrigerant was put in the unit and which refrigerant should  have been put into the unit. 
  9. (Done) No heat call. The burners ignite but go out after 3 seconds. Troubleshoot and resolve.  346F123419SR
  10. Check the cold control of a customer's refrigerator.
  11. One of our customer's needs a furnace inspection to satisfy a potential buyer. 
  12. A tech quit and left a window air conditioner disassembled at a customer's home.  We need to put it back together and using a thermometer,make sure that it is working properly.
  13. It's 75 degrees today.  A customer turned on his A⁄C.  It ran for a few minutes then stopped.  The customer says it is making a loud humming sound. Visit the customer (the instructor is the customer).  Ask questions. Call the service manager and report your findings to the dispatcher to get instructions on how to resolve the issue. Afterward she will decide if we have time to take care of the call today.
  14. A customer called.  We did some furnace work for him a few weeks ago. It is an unusually hot day.  He says that the A⁄C is not cooling properly.  How should you approach this situation? 
  15. (Done) Someone turned in a recovery cylinder that may be over its weight limit.  Determine the maximum amount of refrigerant that can be placed into the cylinder and if the cylinder is overweight.
  16. An older customer called. She said that furnace is making her sick. She complained about the high amount of static electricity in her home, dry skin, and a dry nose.  She also gets sick a lot (colds, flue, etc).  Perform an inspection to see if something can about this situation from an HVAC point of view.  Report your recommendations to the service manager and to the customer.  700HU45F4IRMO
  17. We recently installed a hot water heater for a customer.  The City Inspector said the work was not performed correctly.  She mumbled something about the draft not being correct.  Check the draft and report your findings to the dispatcher.
  18. A customer's blower motor failed.  We need you to pick it up replace it at the shop, then drop it off at the customer's home. Another tech will install it.
  19. A customer called and says that she hears a loud buzzing noise coming from the condensing unit. Drive out check out the situation and write up an estimate for repairs.  
  20. A customer wants an A⁄C inspection.
  21. A customer wants a furnace inspection.
  22. Replace old mercury thermostat with a new digital thermostat.
  23. (Done, actual unit repaired) Replace a bad compressor relay and overload with a 3-N-1 start kit.
  24. A customer's compressor may be failing.  Perform at least three checks using a multimeter.
  25. Run an A⁄C condensate line to a floor drain.
  26. Run an A⁄C condensate line to a condensate pump then send water from the pump to a wash tub.
